EUAqua.Org is a 4-year project funded by the EU's Horizon Europe programme that is dedicated to transforming European organic aquaculture through innovative and sustainable breeding strategies.
Our goal is to enhance the resilience, health, and environmental performance of farmed fish while meeting consumer expectations for high-quality, organic, and eco-friendly seafood.
With a 12-strong consortium of leading research institutions, industry partners, and experts from across Europe, EUAqua.Org is paving the way for the future of responsible organic aquaculture.
Advanced tools for efficient genomic selection and control of reproduction and sex ratio.
Novel tools for phenotyping feed efficiency using sustainable organic aquafeeds.
Genomic technologies for increased disease resilience and fish welfare under a One Health framework.
Guidelines for effective labels and awareness interventions through consumer preference studies.
EUAqua.Org will develop innovative technologies and intervention strategies to overcome the barriers hindering organic aquaculture in Europe. By unlocking the potential of organic aquaculture, the project will facilitate the blue transition towards a Europe dominated by sustainable seafood production. This will enable the provision of alternative sources of nutritious, healthy seafood, whilst ensuring food security, and ultimately playing a pivotal role in the restoration of aquatic biodiversity.
